One Laptop per Child (OLPC)

One Laptop per Child (OLPC), a low-cost, connected laptop for the world's children's education

So, oddly, or not, we went to a croquette party at our nerdy friend Mike's house (in his defense he's one of  the IT guys and a librarian at the university) and he had an XO Laptop (aka OLPC, One Laptop Per Child: visit www.laptop.org for more information).  I was surprised that he had one but not too surprised.  Laptop.org offered these last year before Christmas for $400.  The $400 got one of these sent to you and one sent to the developing world.  Laptop.org's mission is to eventually get the cost on these down to less than $100 per unit and to send them all over the world.  There is more info on these laptops and the OLPC project at www.laptop.org.  And Amazon.com will be selling these with the same by one / one gets sent to the developing world program starting in a few weeks.  I think everybody should buy one and give it to a child they love and one they don't even know elsewhere in the world.
